Antiques Are My Achilles Heel

Antiques are my Achilles heel... I can't help but stop at any and all shops, whether on a Sunday afternoon, or on my way to vacation. You can probably always see me dragging my husband or son to help me load those heavy furniture pieces into the car...

I've always been on the hunt and had a love for antiques. It's something about the history of an item that intrigues me.

I love all things old. It's a beautiful way to remember and embrace the past.

And while writing about "embracing the past" of a one-of-a-kind piece I may find, I can't ignore my own past. It's shape me into who I am today. I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2010, and my world crumbled. But what stood strong was my faith. It has been instrumental in overcoming challenges and obstacles, and the mustard seed is a perfect reminder of the power of faith. But by that power of faith, I can proudly say that I am a survivor. I realized that I couldn't take anything for granted anymore. And that meant finally doing it; finally opening my OWN shop. After a lot of blood, sweat and tears, we opened the first Mustard Seed Gifts in 2016.

Why the Mustard Seed you may ask? Well that's pretty easy...

“He replied, ‘Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.’” (Matthew 17:20)

That Bible verse has become my life's motto. Even the smallest of dreams can come true. And I am evident of that.

In addition to the verse, the name is also a tribute to a piece of jewelry my grandmother and mother used to wear: a mustard seed necklace.
